Summer Hire Program

Position title Student Trainee (Engineering Technician), Series 0899, Pay Grade DB/01 (GS-03 or 04 equivalent). Students are required to apply online and send their resume and transcript to the email box provided on the USA Jobs website.

Qualifications:

  • Applicants must be U.S. Citizens
  • You must be at least 18 years-old by EOD to be eligible
  • Minimum GPA is 2.7
  • Must have at least 6 college credits post high school
  • Students must have demonstrated interest in Engineering & Science (E&S) careers through academic coursework, extracurricular activities, or work experience

Additional Information:

  • Starting hourly salary will be between $17.00 – $21.56 based on qualifications (Approximately $7-8k for the 10 week program). Can be extended to end of the Fiscal Year (FY)

  • End Date: Friday, July 26, 2024
  • This position may be extended no later than September 27, 2024 for qualified local college students within the commuting area. (Based on class schedule)

SMART Scholarship Program

What is it?

Science, Mathematics, and Research For Transformation (SMART) Scholarship-for-Service Program is a scholarship-for-service program designed to recruit, educate, employ, and foster the development of the future Department of Defense (DoD) civilian Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) workforce through scholarships and lasting partnerships with academic institutions, STEM education ecosystems, and DoD laboratories and agencies. The program is funded by the DoD and is a combined educational and workforce development opportunity for STEM students.

What will it accomplish?

The SMART Scholarship-for-Service Program improves the flow of new, highly skilled technical personnel into DoD facilities and agencies, while enhancing the technical skills of the workforce already in place.

How does it work?

Interested applicants complete an online application process which begins August 1st through December 1st each year with awards being granted the following spring. SMART Scholarships are awarded to applicants who are pursuing a degree in, or closely related to, one of the 24 approved STEM disciplines.

Who can apply?

  • A citizen of the United States, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, or United Kingdom at time of application
  • 18 years of age or older as of August 1
  • Requesting at least 1 year of degree funding prior to graduation (which starts at the program start date)
  • Able to complete at least one summer internship (multi-year scholars only)
  • Willing to accept post-graduation employment with the DoD,
  • A student in good standing with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  • Pursuing a technical undergraduate or graduate degree in one of the 24 STEM disciplines
  • Able to produce a fall college transcript from a regionally accredited US college or university, OR be pursuing a graduate degree at a regionally accredited US college or university

Active duty military members who wish to apply for the SMART Scholarship must be separated or on terminal leave on or before August 1st to be eligible. Reserve and National Guard members are eligible to apply. Current ROTC participants with a future service commitment are not eligible to apply.

DoD Centrally Managed College Internship Program

  • Funded with DAWDA until graduation

  • Work Summers (10 weeks total) go on LWOP while attending school in fall/winter
  • Become permanent Employees upon Graduation

 

Recent Graduate Program

  • Candidates that have graduated within two years from an Accredited University/College or Will graduate in the current year
  • Hired as full time candidates at Band II Target III (GS-09 equivalent)
  • Given a Salary increase at 6 months (Based on Performance)
  • Remain in the recent graduate program for 18 months.
  • They are then promoted to Band III (GS-12 equivalent).

  • Must be able to get and maintain a Secret Security Clearance
