Soldiers from the 4thInfantryDivision at Fort Carson were at GVSC testing labs Jan. 28 to support a Soldier Usability Study of a Helmet Mounted Display (HMD), as part of our Crew Optimization and Augmentation Technologies, or COAT.
COAT develops software, such as interfaces, interaction protocols and decision support tools, to enable coordinated platoon-level maneuver for mixed manned-unmanned formations. Research focuses on developing flexible, adaptive interactions between a Soldier crew and variety of unmanned assets in order to enable robust manned-unmanned team performance in the face of dynamic mission environments and intelligent, adaptive adversaries.
The data gathered from this experiment will provide the Next Generation Combat Vehicle Cross Functional Team early analysis on the feasibility of using HMDs in closed hatch and remote vehicle operation.
